Robot Safety Center Opens in Tsukuba, Japan
I’m very happy to see they are now testing smashing robots into small children.
Saw this on Engadget:
The fair city of Tsukuba, which (as you know) is located in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, has recently become home to the new Robot Safety Center. A collaboration between a number of organizations including Japan’s Automobile Research Institute (JARI), the center has areas for testing various robots and exoskeletons for things like obstacle detection, electronic jamming resistance, durability, and more. As well as developing safety standards for the devices, it is hoped that within the next five years it will provide certification services for new robots as they become commercially available. Some eighteen tests have been installed at the facility thus far, and we must say that it looks like fun! See some examples after the break.
For some reason this made me think of Robot Chicken and this shirt-

Star Trek Fans, I Found Some Abandoned Concept Art
I was looking around the web for something to buy myself and ran across some abandoned Ralph McQuarrie concept art from ‘Star Trek – Planet of the Titans‘ (this was going to be Paramount’s first attempt at a big-screen Star Trek movie).

You can see more of Ralph McQuarrie artwork here (on the right side of the page)
And you can see more of our awesome Star Trek shirts here, like this one by Junk Food!

Blizzard Confirms Next-Gen MMO “Titan” Is In The Works!
Fans of Blizzard already saw the leaked four year release schedule, now we finally have confirmation that Titan is in fact (drum roll) actually in the works.
From IGN:
We all know Blizzard has some brand new MMO in development to eventually succeed World of Warcraft, and for a while it’s been rumored to be codenamed “Titan” — even showing up on a purportedly leaked four-year release schedule late last month (via MMOGameSite). Now it can at least be said that “Titan” is technically no longer a rumor.
Speaking with Destructoid before the Spike TV VGAs last Saturday, Blizzard’s Frank Pearce spilled the very limited amount of beans. “The media is not supposed to know anything about [Titan],” Pearce said. “It’s our next-gen MMO, and we’ve only started talking about it in a limited fashion because we wanted to leverage the fact that we’re working on something like that for the purpose of recruiting, getting some of the best talent in the industry on that project.”
Maybe by the time this comes out I’ll be done playing StarCraft 2

Hanna Trailer Sort Of Scares Me
I saw this at New York Comic-Con, but we didn’t have anything to show till today.
Directed by Joe Wrightand stars Eric Bana, Cate Blanchett and a young girl being raised in the wilderness by her father, who’s training her to be an incredibly deadly and unstoppable assassin played by Saoirse Ronan… that’s just awesome!

If I Was Keith Richards, I’d Want to Find The Fountain of Youth Also!
Mermaids, Zombies, Black Beard and Keith Richards… I think this movie may be a win already.
In this action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise, Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), and he’s not sure if it’s love–or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.
The fourth Pirates of the Caribbean flick is out May 20th, 2012.
