Asteroids movie lands at Universal
Jul 02Honestly when I woke up today and sat down to post today’s news, I would have never thought that a black and white arcade game made in 1979 with no plot, script or even a main character would be getting made into a movie.
Not only that but it was picked up by Universal after a four studio bidding war, that right four other studios went to town trying to get this movie. My first thought was "This should fit nicely into the prestigious line of video game movie adaptations already out" till after some searching I found out that Universal is also making a few other movies from games (only these are board games), with such titles as "Battleship" and "Candyland" being translating to the big screen you know one of them will be a hit… am I right or what.
Anyway, it looks like Matthew Lopez will write the script for the feature adaptation, which will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Lopez came out of Disney’s writing program and worked on that studio’s recent movies "Bedtime Stories" and "Race to Witch Mountain." He also wrote the most recent draft of "The Sorcerer’s Apprentice," currently in production with Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel starring. Di Bonaventura’s next outing is "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," which Paramount is set to open Aug. 7, I’m sure that will be a huge hit with the trailer looking so so… I was going to joke and say awesome but don’t want anybody to know I’m serious.
