Disney launches its streaming service in 2019, and as well as making many of its movies and TV shows available, the studio is planning to develop new shows exclusively for the service. Inevitably one of these is to be a Star Wars live-action series. Disney boss Bob Iger has now revealed that the studio is in fact developing more than one Star Wars show.
During Disney’s quarterly investors call, Iger stated that it won’t be long before we get more details about the studio’s plans. “We are developing not just one, but a few Star Wars series specifically for the Disney direct to consumer app,” he said, via Collider. “We’ve mentioned that and we are close to being able to reveal at least one of the entities that is developing that for us. Because the deal isn’t completely closed, we can’t be specific about that, [but] I think you’ll find the level of talent on the television front will be rather significant as well.”

A Star Wars live-action show was in development for several years prior to Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm in 2012. Star Wars creator George Lucas was planning a series called Underworld, that was to take place between Episode III and Episode IV, and reportedly 50 scripts were written before the Disney deal canceled the project.

While Star Wars: Battlefront II, the embattled multiplayer first person shooter from DICE, sold a whopping nine million copies, it fell a million short of EA’s conservative ten million estimate, and considerably below the three-month opening sales of the previous title. The game has also fallen short in terms of revenue, prompting EA to confirm that microtransactions will be returning to the game soon.
After hastily removing the ability to buy crystals, virtual currency for the lootbox-driven progression mechanic of the game, hours ahead of the game’s launch, EA promised that they would bring them back once they figured out how to better make them fit into the multiplayer game. Today, EA explained that the microtransactions will be returning within the next few months.
Additionally, EA CEO Andrew Wilson was quick to clarify that the supposedly acrimonious row between the publisher and Disney was fictional and their relationship was no weaker for the controversy. “You shouldn’t believe everything you read in the press,” explained Wilson. “We have a tremendous relationship with Disney and we have built some amazing games together, and we have been very proactive with that relation in the service of our players.
“We’re at a point where, when we make the decision that we have the right model for players and our community, I have no doubt that we will get the support of Disney on that,” he said when discussing reintroducing the microtransaction model back into Battlefront II.
EA has revised their forecast to expect Battlefront II’s sales to hit its original 10-11 million goal by the end of the fiscal year, or the start of April. This number still puts it behind the first game in the same time frame, which sold fourteen million by that point.
I may not go back ever, but this really does bring back memories.
Blizzard has said Battle for Azeroth, the seventh World of Warcraft expansion, will launch this summer – a date further clarified to mean on or before 21st September 2018.
Pre-purchasing the expansion – buying it outright ahead of time – comes with benefits. One of those is an immediately available free boost to the game’s current level cap of 110; another is a head start on quests to unlock Allied Races in the full Battle for Azeroth expansion. It’s not clear how much of the quests you can complete.

What was Metropolis like before Superman moved to town? That’s a question that will be answered in the latest original series announced for DC Entertainment’s upcoming streaming service.
Metropolis comes from John Stephens and Danny Cannon–the producers of Gotham, which is set in a pre-Batman Gotham City–and will consist of a 13-episode first season. A synopsis from DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. TV reads, “Set in the wondrous and awe-inspiring City of Tomorrow before the arrival of Superman, Metropolis follows Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as they investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets.”

While on the surface, Metropolis sounds a lot like Gotham, there is a major difference. While Batman has yet to arrive in Gotham City on the Fox series, a young Bruce Wayne is one of the main characters. With Metropolis focussing on Lex Luthor and Lois Lane, there will likely be no Clark Kent. Of course, it’s notable that Lois is teaming with someone who will go on to become one of the biggest villains in the DC universe.
Metropolis will go into production later in the year to make a debut in 2019 on DC’s streaming service. It joins other announced series like the live-action Titans, and animated Young Justice: Outsiders and Harley Quinn series. A date for the new platform’s release has not been announced.

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are staying in the superhero game.
The screenwriting duo behind Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming are moving over to DC and are in talks to direct Warner Bros.’ Flashpoint movie, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The studio declined to comment.
The film will star Ezra Miller, reprising his role as Barry Allen/The Flash from Justice League. The Flash solo film has previously had two other directors attached. Dope filmmaker Rick Famuyiwa left in October 2016 over “creative differences.” His exit followed that of Seth Grahame-Smith, who had written the script and was attached to helm.
Daley and Goldstein were largely known for penning comedies such as Horrible Bosses and writing and directing 2015’s Vacation before last year’s Spider-Man, which earned more than $880 million worldwide. They also directed Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams’ Game Night, a film that blends the thriller/comedy genres and is set to open Feb. 23.
Speaking at the ACE Comic-Con, McFarlane explained that his movie would be very different from other recent R-rated comic book adaptations. “It’s funny in Hollywood, if you say you want to do an R-rated movie, they go like ‘Oh like Deadpool and like Logan?'” he said, via The Playlist. “For me, no. Deadpool, to me, was a PG-13 action movie. It just had some naked butts and a couple f-bombs. Other than that, I thought it was the same PG-13 formula.
“I’m talking R. I’m talking that there will not be a lot of fun, there will not be any stupid lines in it. I never like my hero to make a joke right when the jeopardy was at its highest. I felt that if my hero wasn’t afraid right now, why should I be? I want my heroes to go ‘S**t, what do I do now?'”
If he keeps it dark like the old HBO series I can’t wait.
