DC Comics Diane Nelson has set her new top management team as part of Warner Bros.’ overhaul of the comic unit.
Ending months of speculation, Jim Lee and Dan DiDio have been named co-publishers of DC. Geoff Johns has been tapped chief creative officer.
Lee, a longtime comic illustrator, most recently served as DC’s editorial director. He’s also worked on numerous Batman and Superman graphic novels for DC.
DiDio has been with DC since 2002, most recently as the steward of the DC Universe imprint.
The appointment comes five months after Warner Bros. restructured DC Comics — home to such icons as Batman and Superman.
DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson described the new executive line-up as a “dream team,” adding:
This announcement continues and underscores DC’s legacy as the ultimate destination for creators. We’ll benefit enormously from the deep experience this team represents, while re-energizing the direction and focus of the company. I’m excited and honored to have each of them with me at the helm of DC Entertainment.
Move comes with Warner Bros. opening two DC-based properties later this year — “The Losers,” starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan on April 23; and supernatural Western “Jonah Hex,” opening June 18 with Josh Brolin and Megan Fox starring. Studio’s also started production on “The Green Lantern,” starring Ryan Reynolds
With a new executive team finally named, expect announcements about DC Entertainment’s future plans very soon. Wonder if they’ll include Didio’s rumored pet project, Watchmen 2? (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!)
