So What’s Going On With Heroes Next Season?
Posted by keithpatrick on May 13, 2010 in News
For weeks now rumors have been flying around if Heroes will or won’t be canceled. Now it looks like despite abysmal ratings, NBC has made up it’s mind:
When NBC executives got a look at the new pilots they had ordered (five have already been commissioned as series), they fell in love with their own handiwork; the network felt far better about these new shows’ potential than they did about Heroes’. Even though there’s no guarantee that any of the newcomers will work, there’s a lot more upside to giving a new contender such as J.J. Abrams’s Undercovers the time to find an audience rather than yanking it off quickly and begging viewers to give Heroes one more shot. As a result, according to agency sources and chatter around Hollywood, Heroes has started looking less like a backup plan and more like a waste of money.
However, NBC (which declined to comment for this story) is nothing if not appreciative of the few Heroes fans who still care about the saga and doesn’t want to leave them hanging. While a half-season appears to be out of the question, we hear there’s a good chance the network will at least try to find a way to fund a two- or four-hour movie event in order to give some finality to the franchise. Those discussions haven’t taken place yet, however, since NBC still hasn’t officially told Heroes creator Tim Kring his show is canceled.
I think Heroes may be back for 13 episodes

Heroes has had its ratings ups and downs this season, but lately, they’ve been all down. Since the new year it’s had adults 18-49 ratings of 2.2, 2.1, 1.8 and 1.9. The word was it would take some really super powers to get its ratings back enough to save it from being canceled. With the last episode the shows ratings came in at a 2.0, and didn’t really pick up any lost ground. Now with Heroes “failing to see a bounce” for its story’s climax and the show getting 4.4 million viewers, barely beating the 4.3 million who tuned into Jay Leno’s almost-final 10 PM show things looked rather gloomy for the sci fi action drama.
That is till all the these little rumors started to leak out.
First: The show now has 77 episodes, and one more season would bring it up to the magic number of 100 episodes, allowing it to run in syndication forever.
Second: I read someplace (and now my memory is failing me) that Heroes does extremely well DVD sales and has a decent following overseas. I can saw from the States perspective that I do know a few friends that still watch the show and really enjoy is (I myself still have 2 shows on my DVR to catch up).
Last, when Comcast announced it was buying NBC/Universal, CEO Brian Roberts “gave a verbal shout-out” to Heroes on the investor conference call, but to be fair he also did that for 30 Rock and House.

WOW was Fan Expo busy. How busy you ask? Well, the first hour of the show saw three AWESOME fans walk away with TEN t-shirts EACH. Yeah, THAT busy!
It was packed wall to wall with fans & stars alike and it sure felt like just about EVERYONE stopped buy the StylinOnline booth to check us out. The show’s attendance was up 28%, 37% & 55% on Friday, Saturday & Sunday respectively which is just staggering.
One of the highlights of the show for us was having HEROES star James Kyson Lee (Ando) stop by to check out the goods. We snapped a quick pick of James & StylinOnline President James Stylin with our HEROES t-shirts. Does it really get any cooler than that? Oh wait it DOES! Later that day James joined us for a meal and conversation at the Diamond Comics Distributors dinner.
We made a ton of our gracious hosts happy as they picked our racks bare. Of course, the Green Lantern: Blackest Night t-shirts were very popular but we saw the horror and sci-fi t-shirts fly off the racks, too.
Our trip to Fan Expo brought us some of the nicest and most gracious fans, customers and friends we have ever met. We can’t thank each and everyone enough. We’d also like to thank the Fan Expo staff, headed up by Aman Gupta for putting on another great show. James and the StylinOnline Crew are already counting the days until we head back up to one of the best shows on the convention circuit.
Up next… Dragon*Con!
Bryan Fuller is Leaving Heroes
Posted by keithpatrick on Jun 24, 2009 in News

Just as Heroes was gaining some creative momentum with the show’s end-of-season creative rebirth, comes word of another setback: Bryan Fuller is exiting Heroes(Again)
“Development was really starting to heat up, And it appears like I may be writing multiple pilots for NBC so that wasn’t leaving a ton of room for ‘Heroes,’ unfortunately,”
And
“I’m crafting two pilots right now and it’s a lot of work,” admits Fuller, who has an overall deal with NBC. “It was just too hard to [juggle] Heroes and my development; something had to give.”
Fuller is under contract with NBC Universal for another year and a half, and has been preparing new series pitches for the media giant since he left Warner Bros. He’s also expressed an ambition to eventually create, or help create, a new Paramount TV series set in J.J. Abrams’ new “Star Trek” universe.
